14-15 Friday Night Pro – Week 24

Hello everyone.  A little behind here, but working on catching up with content.  Week 24 has come and gone this season, and we had some solid scoring this week.  Bobby Whitcomb’s 128-148-140 for a 416 total led the way Friday night.  Some other huge scores in week 24 with Jay Simoneau (subbing for Malden I) hitting 146-131-134 for a 411!  Rounding out the 400’s were Ed Woodside (09-32-62 – 403), Jeff Surette (45-19-38 – 402), Rich Moran (72-22-08 – 402), and Al Kecyk (15-56-30 – 401).  Good scoring overall on this night, congrats to those guys hitting over 4!

14-15 Friday Night Pro – Week 23

Good afternoon everyone.  These updates should be coming with more frequency I’m happy to report.  We had a tough, tough match with Lucky Strike this past Friday.

Herculean battle the last two boxes between Brian Fournier and Jeff Surette in the second string.  Brian converted the 7-9-10 for a spare, and with the fill and the end result of the tenth box forced Surette to get a mark and get an eight fill for the win.  Surette made his spare, and filled it with seven and we escaped with 1 point.  Surette was high on the evening and for the whole league posting scores of 138-144-126 for a 408 total.  Good job Jeff!

2014-2015 Friday Night Pro Week 8

It’s time to start getting back into this now that things have calmed down.  Speaking of calm – enter Steve Lach.  Steve Lach tore up lanes 25 and 26 at Metro Bowl in Peabody on Friday opening with a 174(!), and then completing a great night by finishing 141 and 145 for an impressive total of 460!  Steve’s 460 puts him in a tie for 1st with the legendary Jeff Surette!

You can find week 8’s stats here.

Big Game – Lucky Strike I

I’ve read about it, but I finally witnessed it.  I saw a 700 game AND a 2000 series in the same night.  It was sad that it was against my team, but such is life.  Some captain I am, coming in the lowest of the ten bowlers.  Take your eyes away from my name and just look at the scores.

lucky1Lucky Strike is at it again.  It was awesome to watch as pin after pin after pin rocketed into the pit.  The consistency and teamwork is just silly.

I tried to look into their eyes tonight to see the red light; because man; are they machines.  It was like bowling against 5 T-1000’s!  If any of them asked for John Connor, I was out there!

Watching the 700 game is awesome all by itself – though it is a bit more entertaining when we bowled well too.  630’s will win you a lot of strings on Friday night. Not tonight however.

But then, to watch them throw ANOTHER one (almost!) and be at 1,400 after two strings, I was really hoping for a 2,100 – I’ll be honest.

To watch them bowl as a team is hard to explain.  So many marks.  So much ink.  Almost always managing to make a bad fill into another mark to keep the streak alive.  Another thing to keep in mind is the teamwork, the knowledge of the game, the faith to listen, and the ability to do it.

Tough to visualize, but I am going to try anyway.  Case in point, the shot of the night – and there were a STUPID amount but this shot in particular sticks out in my mind.

Barber throws his first ball and buries the 1-2 pocket leaving the 7-10.  There was a piece wood of laying near the 7 pin essentially making an “L”.  To the right of that piece of wood, two vertical pieces of wood nearly touching, and nearly making a “V” toward the pit.  Just ahead of the right stick, was a flat piece of wood acting as a road block.  Baker leans in and calmly explains – and I’m trying to do the best I can to get it correct – hit the left piece of the “V”.  By throwing your ball to just left of the headpin, and hitting the left part of the “V the ball will hit the flat wood and take the 7-pin, and the right pin will spin around and come toward the lane and take the 10-pin.  So what does Barber do?  He makes it – and he makes it clean.  And I’m saying no questions asked he makes it.  Just to the left of the head pin, hits the left “V” the ball hits the 7-pin and the right portion of the “V” takes the 10-pin.  Maybe they have “Easy Buttons” in their bags?

Congrats to those guys at Lucky Strike.  Another 2,000 and another post.  Two weeks left to do it again.

Friday Night Pro Week 33

Hello everyone.

Much like Candlepin bowling, the Boston marathon is a historic and traditional event.  Everyone here at Everything Candlepin pass along our thoughts and prayers to all the victims and families affected by this tragedy.

Keep calm, and carry on.

It’s been a while, but here is week 33.  Only six weeks left.

Friday Night Pro Week 9 and Week 10

Hello everyone,

With the Worlds this week, the Friday night season comes to a halt, so not much to report – except a big game!

Candlewood and EverythingCandlepin’s own Frank De Luca threw a big game Thursday night November 1st, at Woburn Bowladrome.  This match was our double match with Woburn I.  Frank owned the first string starting with his spare in the second.  He followed with a four bagger, and finished with three more spares for eight in a row!  He got totally cheated on a spare in the tenth box for a 200 game, settling on an amazing 197.  Last box, he had the four horseman right, along with the 7 and 9 pins.  He absolutely drilled the right side and the head pin and a piece of wood missed the 7 pin, sadly.

Frank finished with a 421 for total which was Candlewood’s first 400 this season!

The thing I will remember about it were the third and fourth hammers.  The third one was an absolute crusher except for the 4 and 5 pins.  It took what seems like hours for the 4 to tip into the 5 for the triple!  Upon hitting reset, I said to Frank “This time with a little bit more authority, so we don’t have to hold our breath waiting for the four to hit the five!”  With a wave of his hand as if to say “shut the hell up right now,” he dismissed my words, and then dismissed the fresh rack with another solid hammer.

Frank took over league high single in the Friday night league and helped those pesky Candlewood kids to take six points from a really solid Woburn I team on their home turf.  Our next match with them at home should be interesting.

Here are Week 9 and Week 10.

Way to go Frank! Here is Frank’s first string from that amazing night!

Friday Night Pro Week 8

Full standing for week 8 can be found here.

We have our double match this week, besides having matches on October 26th and November 2nd we will have a match in between the two dates.  My impression is that the 26th will be in Week 9, and the following match and November 2nd will be in Week 10.  Again, only a guess.

Update: So when someone handsome emails you, you listen.  Thanks Dennis!  That was kind of messy.  Got it now.  October 26th is week 9, the extra match is week 10, November 2nd is week 11.  I butchered it.  Most likely the standings will be posted with week 9, and then week 10 and 11 in conjunction.  I think that’s what I was for with that ugly little sentence, yeah.

Friday Night Pro Week 4

He gave us on of the best quotes for a match outside of the Pro Series – so much so, that another bowler copied him.  True to his legend, Sammy Dagostino graced us with a 185 this past Friday.  Way to go Sam!

Full standings are here.

Big Game – Lucky Strike I

Quickly into week 2 in the Friday night Pro League and already some big scores are being thrown around.  We would like to congratulate Lucky Strike I tonight!  Lucky Strike I faced off against 20th Century in a heavyweight bout.  Lucky Strike I had a great night with three of their five members throwing 400’s, and as a team, they threw 2,011!

They were lead by Shawn Baker’s 445.  He was followed closely by Shawn McKinley’s 426, and Dave Richards throwing a 417.  Derek Leffler and Dave Barber chipped in with 371 and 362, respectively.

Here is the scoresheet from this evening’s match.  It’s worth noting that 20th Century nearly threw an 1,800.  To walk into an opponent’s building and bowl that well, they should be commended.  There’s nothing you can do when you’re team averages 600, and you run into a team that fires on all cylinders like that.

Scores like this are what makes Friday nights fun.  Three 150+, five 140+, two 130+, and ten games of 120+ is great bowling by BOTH teams.  They should both be commended.  It would have been nice to be a fan in the crowd in Lynn.

Being part of 1,800’s nights are awesome, but I bet watching the 2,000 total was just as fun.

Congrats again to Lucky Strike I!

UPDATE: The first string total should be 683, and the overall total should be 2021!

Friday Night Pro Week 1

Week 1 arrives with bang as Woburn 1’s Mark Gregory started  the year of with 11 marks in a row in the first game (spare-strike in the 10th) for a 190!

In other matches, the returning champs started off on the right foot as well defending their title by sweeping Candlewood 8-0.  It was a satisfying win for 20th Century as they were led by Skip Easterbrooks throwing a 399 followed by Mike Cuccia with a 380.  Candlewood was led by Justin Scali with 372 and Jason Shiner at 349.  Central 2 and Pilgrim 2 managed to keep pace with 20th, as they also went 8-0.

One last thing to note from week 1 is the return of Friday night bowling to Park Place lanes in Windham.  Park Place jumped out early against Lucky 1, but Lucky 1 found their stride in second and third games taking total 1847-1822, and winning 6-2.

Complete stats can be found here.

UPDATE: When the Pro Series President emails you, you listen.  20th Century are the reigning PLAYOFF champions and Pilgrim 2 are the reigning REGULAR SEASON champs.  Sorry Mr. President!
